Title Luftwaffe flyer's dagger, 2nd model
Nationality German
Period c 1937-45
Sold

This was worn by all Luftwaffe flying personnel on fighters, bombers and transport planes. It is a wartime example, having the metal anodised scabbard, and there is no maker mark. The grip is white plastic filled with plaster, wrapped with brass wire. The hilt fittings are of the generic WKC variety.

There is a pair of original straps of the de luxe variety. However, their fabric has degraded somewhat, being stiff with age and rather frayed at the edges.

There is a grub screw missing at the throat of the scabbard, some wear at the top ring fitting. The pommel screw thread has clearly worn to the extent that it is now glued to the tang. Sadly, this is a fairly common occurrence with this dagger, as an iron screw thread eventually wears away its aluminium socket.

For the rest, the dagger is in good shape, the scabbard having most of its original anodised finish.
