This 1914 refurbished example (all markings have been polished off the blade) has a brown leather scabbard, as opposed to the more normal black, and a late Victorian volunteer frog marked '4 OX' (4th Ox & Bucks). I have only had one of these before in many years of bayonet dealing, thus I think it is comparatively scarce as a factory refurb item. The hilt has been blued, as have the scabbard mounts, and the grip has possibly been replaced, since it would be difficult to give a factory blue finish to the grip mounts without first removing the woodwork. The scabbard leather is now a little on the frail side with some opening of the seam towards the bottom chape. |
