This little badge commemorates Archduke Carl's field service from 1914 to 1916. Typically these badges were sold to raise money for the widows and orphans of the relevant units and were normally worn on the left-hand side of the Austrian field cap. Sometimes as many as six were worn all together. It is of die-struck pot metal badge and its condition is excellent, with most of the original anodised zinc finish remaining, although there is some wear to the highlights, such as his chin and nose. |
