Title KuK badge for the heroes of Bukowiner
Nationality Austrian
Period 1916
Price £15.00

These were distributed in Austria to raise money for the widows and orphans of those who fell at the Battle of Bukowiner in 1916. The central figure is a nurse. There is a Viennese maker's mark on the reverse.

Typically these badges were sold to raise money for the widows and orphans of the relevant units and were normally worn on the left-hand side of the Austrian field cap. Sometimes as many as six were worn all together. This particular example was probably made with widows and nursing staff in mind, as no specific unit is mentioned other than the heroes who died at Bukowiner.

It is nicely struck in gilding metal, with a steel pin fitting brazed to the reverse. Its condition is excellent for its age.

I have in the last six months inherited my late father Alan Swain's police memorabilia collection along with much paperwork receipts etc. I would like to pass on to you my thanks for such good dealership with my father going back to the late 80s and well into the 1990s.
