This is a pot metal badge, maker marked on the reverse 'Gurschner Wien VII/2'. It is a nicely patinated example of the widows and orphans fund school of badges, clearly marked to the 95th regiment and dated 1916. Typically these badges were sold to raise money for the widows and orphans of the relevant units and were normally worn on the left-hand side of the Austrian field cap. Sometimes as many as six were worn all together. This particular example has, sadly, had the pin and hinge removed from the reverse. Otherwise it is in nice shape. |
