These oval badges were worn by NCOs and denoted their particular professional skill, in this case Sperrvormann (I think this is either mine layer or possibly mine sweeper). It would have been worn on the upper left arm.
It is machine embroidered red (perhaps a cotton/rayon mix as it has a sheen to it) on a navy blue wool twill ground. It measures just under 9cm long and is in good condition, but the edges are a little frayed and there is some minor soiling on the dark blue ground next to the mine.
