Title Khyber knife
Nationality Afghan
Period c 1900
Sold

This is the classic Afghan knife, used in the many 19th and 20th century Frontier wars against the British by these delightful, if somewhat mercurial, people. Emblematic of the Kipling era and Tommy Atkins's many trials and tribulations on the Frontier.

The hilt is cow horn with iron mounts and the blade possesses a ferocious edge. The scabbard is red calf leather on a wood base. There has been some substantial worming of the scabbard which has now been carefully cured and all the worm holes sealed. Typically, there is some damage to the horn scales at the top of the pommel.

The day the blunderbuss arrives I could not stop looking and feeling the gun for at least one hour. My wife told me that I was sick........ I am very happy, it is a piece of craftsmanship! Well made! I have 5 blunderbusses but all iron barrel, also from England but this one is gorgeous with the Brass Barrel.

Please keep me informed when you have any other type of blunderbuss. Thanks my friend!
