Title K98 'Pioneer' dress bayonet by WKC
Nationality German
Period 1933-36
Sold

Of the K98 dress bayonet variants, this is the rarest, being in essence a close clone of the K98 combat type but with an EPNS finish and chequered bakelite grips. It is marked WKC on the forte - Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co is perhaps the oldest Solingen cutlery factory, dating back to the early 18th century.

This would have been a private purchase item, to be worn as a 'walking out' side arm when not on duty.

The blade rattles a little in the hilt, a fairly typical fault on these weapons, and there is a little bubbling to the finish between the grips. Unusually, the scabbard has blued steel, rather than the commonly encountered black enamel finish, and there is no throat plate to the sheath. There is some light surface rust on the scabbard and on the hilt rivets, as well as at the base of the blade. The original leather washer is in place. The overall condition is excellent.
