This was the classic companion for the Landser (the German squaddie) through all their European and Russian battle tours from 1939-45 and is the development of the S98/84 bayonet from WW1. This example has matching numbers to the scabbard and blade and is clearly maker marked at the scabbard throat and the forte of the blade. The blade appears to have been sharpened a little (viz some minor scratch marks on the obverse), although not excessively. It has 90% of its original blue finish and the scabbard also has much of its original blue finish. However, the scabbard has some severe dents and a little surface rust. There are a few pinprick dents to the flash guard at the back of the hilt. The grips are a purply-black bakelite. The condition of the piece is reflected in the price. |
