Title Iron stirrup
Nationality European
Period 13th century
Sold

This is undoubtedly a ground find from north west Europe. The design is beginning to show evidence of the complexity to which horse furniture increasingly moved. It would have been worn by civil and military alike, including knights who fought in the last Crusades in the east, viz Louis IX's expeditions to Egypt and Palestine.

Heavily corroded throughout, it still has its essential form and, comparatively speaking, is a fairly hard thing to find.
