Title Iron prick spur
Nationality European
Period 12th/13th century
Sold

This type would have been worn in the Crusader armies in the early Middle Ages. They were only superceded when the new style Gothic spurs appeared, with much longer shanks and the introduction of rowels in the 14th century. This example has the unusual feature of a square stop at the base of the prick to limit the penetration of the horse's flank.

This measures 10 cm acros at the instep. It is in somewhat fragile condition, being heavily corroded in parts, while retaining all its original shape. The rust has been largely stabilised, but minor surface rust is evident overall. It is a ground find.

I picked up the parcel today ... I am very pleased I decided to buy this.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
