This is the classic police hanger issued for riot duty and convict escort in the mid-19th century. The iron variety is a little rarer, in my opinion, than the brass ones and this particular example has a magnificent blade with virtually all its factory polish. Most of these were made by Parker Field & Co, but this is unmarked. Sadly, the scabbard has lost the stitching on the seam, but, this apart, the rest of the weapon is in an exceptionally good state for its age. The fishskin grip is perfect and the iron pommel shows some wear from use. |
