This clean cross, together with a short piece of original ribbon, is maker marked '11' on the ring, for Grossmann of Vienna. This was the basic gallantry award in the hierarchy that led up to the award of the Knight's Cross. The 1813 date on the reverse commemorates the institution of the award in the Napoleonic Wars. The silver rim is somewhat tarnished with age, but the paintwork is intact throughout. |
