Title Iron Cross, 2nd class, 1939
Nationality German
Period c 1939-45
Sold

This was the basic grade of Iron Cross of which some five million were awarded in WW2. A good clean example with some crackelure to the paintwork and some rust spots to the iron. Maker marked 70 on the ring for Lind & Meyrer of Oberstein. The ribbon is a clean, original piece of buttonhole ribbon.

Interestingly enough, this particular award is rarely found as a competently made fake. There were a few pieces made in France in the early 1970s from original dies with triple figure identical number maker punches, eg 666.

...the sword arrived safely today... My son, who shares my interest in antique edged weapons and for whom I bought the sword, is delighted.

I should have written sooner, but I did want to let you know that the photos arrived safely and are absolutely fabulous. I could not be happier with them.

Thanks for the excellent service and great photos. I hope we have occasion to do business together again.
