Title Iron bit (part of bridle)
Nationality Spanish
Period early 17th century
Sold

This is a particularly nice piece of decorative ironwork: a complex, double-jointed example, with all its attendant metalwork (ie chains and hooks) intact. There are rather sharp grooves on its bars, and quite clearly a miniature double eagle on both faces of the support elements (4th photo), strongly indicating Spanish provenance.

Condition: there is scattered surface rust on the piece throughout, but nothing substantially amiss with its general construction, although there is a crack on one of the hinges in the centre of the piece (see last photo). The ribbed elements are a light grey colour - sure evidence of a surface tinned to prevent rust; much of this finish is still extant, somewhat mixed up with rust patches. I have partially cleaned it, but a little further TLC would bring it up to its true glory.
