Title Indian Army bayonet for S.M.L.E. rifle
Nationality Indian
Period c 1942
Sold

Reasonable example of an Indian Army bayonet for the Enfield rifle of WW2. The initials 'NWR' on the base of the blade stands for North West (Frontier) Railway. Typically, on this railway, there would have been armed railway police, who would have carried such an item. This unit was called the North West Frontier Railway Battalion, formed in 1886.
