Title Indian Army 26th Light Cavalry belt and pouch
Nationality British
Period 1906
Sold

This fine belt and pouch belonged to Watkis, MC and bar, an officer of the 26th Light Cavalry (formerly 1st Madras Lancers). It is silver hall marked: Birmingham, 1906. The battle honours are: Carnatic, Sholinghur (unique to 1st Madras Native Cavalry, ancestor of this regiment - the title changed in 1903), Mysore, Seringapatam, Burma.

There are small tack marks throughout the leather backing where it has been pinned onto a display board, and some of the silver bullion has separated in places from this backing. This is a rare survivor from the Raj.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
