This is typical Home Guard insignia, with a curious reversal of the lettering on the other side - perhaps they were stored in a pile before the ink was properly dry. It was normally worn on the left sleeve by the Home Guard, who were usually WW1 veterans called upon to defend air fields etc to free up regular troops for service overseas. It appears to be made of cotton drill and is in pretty good condition for its age. |
