The first model of this weapon had an engraved blade with the inscription 'Blood and honour' (in German). This, the second model, has a plain blade of slightly heavier construction. They were carried by fully qualified HJ members and, in its day, the weapon was called the Fahrtenmesser. The original boy scout knife! The blade has suffered somewhat through use and polishing, but not excessively. There is some minor enamel damage to the diamond in the hilt and the leather is a little frail with age, but still quite substantial. The spring on the press clip is a little weak and there are areas of plating lifting on the hilt, which, in common with most of the later types, is of silver-plated pot metal. The diamond is a little ill-fitting as it would appear to be a period replacement, taken from another knife. |
