This device fitted on the standard star-shaped helmet plate of the late Victorian era. It was normally worn on the blue cloth helmet, which had a cork body trimmed with leather. These helmets were worn from 1881 to 1914 and to this day they are still on occasion worn by the regimental band of the descendant regiments. There is verdigris on the reverse, but, this apart, the piece is in excellent condition, a typical example of the gilding metal product of this era. |
