Title G.K. Bourne - RAF Cadet College athletics prize medal

This belonged to Gen. Lord Geoffrey Kemp Bourne, born 1902, educated Rugby School and RMA Woolwich, commissioned 1923 2nd Lt. RA, served on General Staff throughout WW2 in Burma 1945-46 with 5th Indian Division, landing on a recce mission behind enemy lines in Holland during 'Operation Varsity' in March 1944. He later commanded in Malaya 1954-56.

He was made a life peer in 1964 and GCB in 1960. He had a long association with airborne forces after the war, as GOC 16th Airborne Division 1951-53 and then as Hon. Col. 10th Bn. Parachute Regiment (TA) 1960-65. He was appointed Colonel Commandant of the RA in 1954 and ADC to the Queen 1959-60. He was awarded the Order of the Legion of Merit and the Silver Star by the USA for his WW2 service. He was made CMG in 1952 and KBE in 1954.

This silver athletics medal is in GVF condition and measures 1.75"across.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
