This relatively uncommon piece, worn by officers of the French Marines, is of two-piece brass construction (with traces of fire gilt finish) and has its original cloth liner and the remains of its gold bullion suspension cords. Examples of this can be found in 'Le Hausse-Col Francais' by Bertrand Malvaux and Michel Petard (Editions du Canon, 1997). There is a small dent to the body of the piece, just below the anchor, and the bulk of the gilt finish has been polished off. Otherwise it is in excellent shape. |
