Title Fireman's sidearm
Nationality German
Period c 1936-45
Sold

This is the short model sidearm for the Feuerwehr, introduced about 1936, for wear by senior NCOs and was worn as a 'walking out' weapon, with a Feuerwehr portepee tied to the belt frog. The belt buckle would have been the standard Gott Mit Uns variety surrounding a marching swastika. There are no maker's marks.

This 20cm blade has no swage and a somewhat wider fuller than the other more frequently encountered version.

This has a steel hilt, not the more commonly encountered pot metal type, which retains some 95% plus original EPNS finish. The scabbard paintwork has old refinish to it. Both bakelite grips are perfect. There is some minor bubbling of the EPNS finish to both sides of the blade near the point.

testimonials

Just to let you know that the kokarde [cockade] arrived today. Looks great. Definitely original.

Hanger arrived safe and sound 11.30ish today. Very pleased, it's as expected. Your excellent pics make all the difference in terms of confident buying over the net. As a matter of interest, the frog, which as you said is very a/f, is, as you thought, 'spot on'. On closer inspection it is a mk.1 Naval Frog, designated 'for cutlasses'. Date seems around 1860ish give or take.

By the way, I think your site is very user friendly. Seems to work much better than many and up to date, a rarity!!!
