This is the pattern which has the guard forged in one piece with the blade. They were carried from mid-war onwards to the end as a last-ditch weapon by many of the soldiers, especially on the Russian front. There is no maker mark. The grip would appear to be fruitwood of some sort, held in place by three brass rivets. It is a slightly scruffy example, with some traces of the original paintwork to the scabbard. |
