Title Falangist youth front badge
Nationality Spanish
Period c 1935
Sold

The yoke and arrows (around the swan's head) are the symbols of the Falange movement, the right wing political organisation founded in response to the influence of the left in Spain in 1933 by Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, later assassinated by the Reds. The Falange continued under Franco's death.

This badge could have been worn on a beret or possibly a tunic.

It (4.5cm x 5.5cm) is made of pressed zinc with a silver-grey finish to the reverse and a polychrome finish to the obverse. There are three small holes punched through the piece - perhaps at some time this was fitted for display of some sort. It would have had a pin fitting on the reverse originally, now missing.

Its condition is very scruffy, with maybe 30% of the paintwork missing, but it is still a good representative example of its kind, despite the missing pin and the mounting holes.

I received the silver Verdienstkreuz this morning. Your swiftness and dedication was very much appreciated and, though the envelope arrived with a Post Office sticker saying it had been found open or damaged, the cross was unharmed and looks beautiful. Thanks for your time.
