This is the badge of the 'civilian gliding club' (Deutscher Luftsport Verband) founded by the Nazis to get round the Versailles Treaty strictures on the existence of any airforce. In 1936, this in turn became the NSFK or Fliegerkorps for short, which shortly afterwards became the Luftwaffe. Its condition is excellent and it is maker marked 'H.Deumer Ludenscheid Ges.Gesch.' The photo of the back was taken in grey sunlight and shows every little bit of wear to the plating, which in reality isn't so obvious and, indeed, looks pretty good to the naked eye. It is quite a rare badge and I have been lucky enough to buy two of them from a veteran source. This is the better of the two, being made of thicker material. |
