Title Danzig Air Raid Police lapel pin
Nationality German
Period c 1939-40
Sold

One of the rarer Third Reich lapel pins (23 mm diameter), these were given to the civilians who operated as air wardens in Danzig (the present day port of Gdansk in Poland, which, in the 1930s, was a free port and an autonomous entity surrounded by Polish soil). They have the emblem of Danzig at the base of the badge on the white circlet.

Marked 'GES.GESCH.' (for patent pending) on the reverse, these are probably tombak with a heavy silver-plate finish and very high quality enamel.

The condition is excellent, except for a tiny abrading of the white enamel at 11 o'clock.

NB1: The fourth (1997) edition of Heering-Husken's Katalog der Abzeichen deutscher Organisationen 1871-1945 (first published 1982) refers to this badge on page 209.

NB2: This was a badge to denote membership of the DLB in civilian clothes, not for wear on the uniform, which had its own insignia.

My Arisaka arrived at 9.00am. Very prompt delivery and excellent packaging! The blade is superb.. and just what I was after, its in very fine condition and just as you described.. I've referenced it in my copy of Raymond La Bar's book "Bayonets of Japan".

Many thanks, Chris, once again its been a pleasure doing business!

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
