Title Court sword
Nationality Swedish
Period c 1940-50
Sold

This is from the reign of Gustavus V (1858-1950), Gustavus VI (died 1973), or possibly Gustavus VI's son Charles XVI (born 1946). It would have been worn by Swedish diplomats and senior members of the royal court. It is a high quality item made by Wilkinson Sword of London, with their logo etched at the forte.

The coat of arms dates from the reign of Gustavus V and was used by all subsequent Swedish monarchs. The gilt strapwork elements of the hilt are identical to the Norwegian sword, so one can fairly decisively date them to within ten years of one another.

The mounts are gilt bronze with mother of pearl grips. The design is a mid-19th century one, of French origin. Some 95% plus of the original gilding remains. The blade is a back sword type, ie with a single edge, also of French design. The scabbard is black calf leather, in very good shape with a tiny little scuff at the base on the reverse.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
