The Connaught Rangers served with great distinction as the 88th Foot in the Peninsula War in Spain and Portugal and are, arguably, next to the Dublin Fusiliers, one of the more distinguished of the old pre-partition Irish regiments. This is a die-struck example in gilding metal with a replacement pin at the reverse (the slider having broken, presumably). Increasingly, a hard badge to find in perfect condition, hence its inclusion here. |
