Title Congolese throwing knife
Nationality African
Period 19th century
Sold

This rare item is, in all probability, nearer 1800 than later, and examples can be seen in Stone's Glossary. Not to be confused with the later types covered with Qu'ranic inscriptions, which were carried by some of the Mahdi's African troops in the 1880s. Apparently these could be thrown reasonably accurately to a maximum distance of 50 yards.

It comes complete with a small metal stand, which would support it hilt down on a flat surface. The condition is excellent for its age, with an overall grey patination to the iron work.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
