This standard late pattern combat knife, with a Luftwaffe acceptance stamp on the base of the blade, has been customised by the insertion of an SS enamel lapel pin in the top of the grip. This feature appears to be original and was not put on yesterday, but whether it is contemporary with the construction of the dagger is a moot point.
As to the SS using Luftwaffe equipment, there are plenty of photographs of SS prisoners in Normandy showing them wearing all manner of Luftwaffe ponchos, and even belt buckles, never mind the paratroop helmets with Luftwaffe markings used in Yugoslavia by the SS paratroop battalion.
