This mould would have produced a slug with a hollow cavity in its base and a two-grooved finish (for accepting lube). These would have been in use on the earliest three-band Enfields right up to the Snider conversions of 1866, ie from the Crimean War through the Mutiny and the Abyssinia Campaign. Though the iron parts of the mould have suffered somewhat, the interior of the mould is nice and clean, and one could certainly still cast decent bullets from it. This is the first time I have had one of these through my hands in 40 years of dealing. I believe that they are fairly uncommon. |
