Title Buff leather sword knot with braided cord
Nationality British
Period c 1820
Sold

I think this is the undress sword knot for the 1822 pattern Light Cavalry sword (judging from old portraits) and was worn through the early years of use of this sword. By the time of the Crimea, a similar knot was used, but with a flat leather strap instead of the braided cord.

This knot has been given a coat of whiting at some point, quite possibly in period, as portraits show bright white knots on cavalry officers' swords of this period.

The condition is excellent for its age, but it is a little frayed in one place.

Just a short note to let you know that I have collected the Police fur cap this morning from the Post Office. I am really happy with it, and for sure I will give a thumbs-up to your service. This was the first item I ever bought from you, and I hope it will not be the last.
