Title Bronze bust of John Keate DD
Nationality British
Period mid-19th century
Sold

This interesting bronze (7 inches high) is inscribed on the back: 'John Keate DD / Head Master of / Eton College / from 1809 to 1834'. (DD = Doctor of Divinity.) He was famously in charge of Eton at the time when Wellington described Waterloo as having been won on the playing fields of that establishment, and he died in 1852.

Dr Keate was a small man (under 5 feet) and a stern disciplinarian, but at a time when the school was full of unruly elements.

testimonials

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
