This bayonet, marked 'W' at the forte for Winchester make, would fit the standard US bolt action rifle or the model 12 Winchester combat shotgun. Many of these were shipped over to the UK under the 'lend-lease' programme in the dark days of 1940 for Home Guard use. This one is pure Yank throughout, having no British marks.
The leather scabbard is one of the nicest I have ever seen on a P17. The blade shows a little service wear, especially at the point, and one bolt head on the grip has been polished clean. The grips would appear to have a varnish or button polish finish. Scabbard mounts appear to have most of the original finish.
