Title Bayonet for K98 Mauser rifle
Nationality German
Period 1937
Sold

This bayonet is the classic Third Reich armed forces example, dated 1937 on the back of the blade, marked for Carl Eickhorn. This was developed from the S84/98, which first made an appearance in Germany in 1915 as a wooden hilted example. It is the standard German combat bayonet of WW2.

The scabbard is for an original K98; however, it has been refurbished and has some foreign markings on the frog stud and the top of the throat. On the reverse, there is the original maker's mark 'FZE' with the date '43' for F.W. Holler of Solingen.

There is substantial bruising to the obverse walnut grip plate. Otherwise, it's in quite good shape, with considerable traces of blue finish on the blade. The throat screw of the scabbard is missing. The pommel has been used as a hammer at some stage and is therefore somewhat bruised.

testimonials

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
