Title Bayonet for Gras rifle, model 1874
Nationality French
Period 1878
Sold

Marked on the back of the blade 'Manufacture d'Armes St Etienne Juin 1878'. This was the bayonet carried on their second bolt action black powder rifle through all of France's campaigns in Africa and Indo-China in the latter half of the 19th century before the introduction of the Lebel in 1886.

This is priced low because the blade has suffered abuse throughout its edge and there is one deepish patch of pitting and several minor ones. However, having said that, it has matching numbers throughout and the grips, although a little oil stained, are in good shape. The scabbard has a patinated finish.

testimonials

Thank you for the bayonet... I am absolutely thrilled with it. Look forward to more purchases from you.

Found the item a little on the expensive side and a bit disappointed that you were unwilling to bend a bit on the price of the Officer's Tunic Eagle (half the fun of buying, after all, is the haggling), but impressed by the speed of delivery and the quality of the item. Was well worth it in the long run...
