Title Bayonet for 1891 model Mauser rifle
Nationality Argentinian
Period c 1890s
Sold

This is a typical Solingen export product from the massive armaments export industry that Germany enjoyed in the 20 years prior to WW1. It still has its Argentinian coat of arms at the base of the blade; many surviving examples lack this, having had it ground off. It is an extremely well made piece.

Its condition is generally excellent: the blade is almost factory new and has never been sharpened. The scabbard has faint traces of original finish up at the frog stud, but for the rest the finish has gone and there is some light patination throughout. There are non-matching numbers on the scabbard and weapon.

?20 postage is fine, can't wait for the sword to arrive. The last sword I purchased from you was in really nice condition.

Excellent information, Chris, you've been making a big effort! I will spell it out more closely (I'm a historian!) and don't think Bezdek can add much more.
