Clean example of Bavarian merit cross, with swords and crown. On original silk ribbon. (NB: Silver finish only.) Classic Bavarian award for front line service awarded to senior NCOs and junior officers, eg at Verdun, where a large component of the assaulting German army was of Bavarian origin.
