Title Bavarian NCO pickelhaube plate
Nationality German
Period c 1895-1914
Sold

This is a typical private purchase piece, die-struck in gilding metal with a light gilt wash, with screw post reverse as opposed to soldered loops on issue helmets. It would have been worn on the infantry or dragoon helmet by an NCO or perhaps an 'einjahriger' volunteer/officer candidate.

The helmet would have been constucted of hardened black leather and there would have been a brass spike on top with brass peak trim and spine.

The crown on one of the lions is missing, but otherwise it is in quite good order, the gilt wash being somewhat rubbed on the highlights.

Prov: from the J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Pattern Book Archive, sold at auction by order of the National Army Museum, London.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
