The Duchy of Baden was one of the minor German states to survive intact the Vienna Conference of 1814 and on into the second Reich under Wilhelm II. This is the last pattern plate for the Baden pickelhaube, worn throughout WW1. It has been flattened somewhat to mount on a board and the edges have been curled back a little here and there, but essentially the piece is in good shape without any cracks or splits. The reverse has some age patination of the type you normally associate with gilding metal. |
