Title Baden-Powell photographic buttonhole
Nationality British
Period c 1900
Price £75.00

This shows quite a nice head-and-shoulders portrait photo of Baden-Powell wearing the hat popularised later by the Boy Scout movement, which he founded. His original glory came from the defence of Mafeking. There were great celebrations throughout the Empire when Mafeking was relieved and this is an example of what this euphoria produced.

The badge measures 2.4cm in diameter. The reverse and mounts are, I suspect, pinchbeck. The photograph is a sepia example and does not appear to have unduly faded.

Having received the beautiful medal that has been the subject of many recent phone calls, I am absolutely delighted with it. More importantly, the research you provided into the military backgrounds of all those involved made it all the more poignant. Thank you for your highly professional and friendly help and advice throughout the transaction.
