This card (one of seven) was a souvenir from France, sent by Sapper Len Pettet to his wife Rose. His rank of Sapper is visible at the top of the reverse, along with his army number, though both are partially concealed by the remains of mounting paper. It is dated in his handwriting, March 10th '17. The handwriting is all in pencil, but quite legible, and mostly concerns domestic events. His surname doesn't show on this card, although if the paper label could be carefully removed it would probably emerge. It is, however, visible on several of the others. The condition is good for its age. However, the whole series had been mounted on board, from which it has been carefully removed, leaving some scars on the reverse as well as remains of the mounting paper. The postcard itself is somewhat foxed, but the silk is in nice, bright order. |
