This was an award from the Army Temperance Association to the European ORs in India for having kept a clean slate regarding alcohol abuse over a number of years. Drunkeness was a perennial problem for the army in India. Lord Roberts introduced the 'coffee shop' concept in the cantonments to help stem this plague.

It weighs 21gm, is struck in .925 sterling silver, but not hallmarked. It is in VF condition.
