These were designed to give an ORs company number with a quick glance at his shoulder straps. They would have been worn in a bright finish on the pre-war tunic, and then sprayed with feldgrau paint for the war. A bit of a rarity today, as I suspect they were soon discontinued - only early wartime photos show these in use.
They are maker marked 'WD' on the reverse and have virtually all their original paint. They measure 20mm across.
