This is the standard version made in the late 30s and early years of WW2, with a fuller and quillon. The rifle was the classic 6.5mm Japanese Mauser. There is an arsenal mark (for Heijo) on the base of the blade and the grips are hardwood, rivetted into position, which is an indication of slightly later manufacture, earlier ones having screw bolts. This is one of the nicest AM bayonets I have had through my hands, inasmuch as it has more or less all its blue finish on the scabbard, hilt and blade, never mind the nice leather frog. The only fault is some minor distortion of the screw head on the reverse of the scabbard. The blade is sharpened from the halfway mark, typically found on wartime production pieces. |
