This is the lapel badge with which all Air Raid Police were issued to wear on their civil clothes. They were never issued with uniforms, only this, together with a whistle and a tin hat. However, in many respects, these men were among the real heroes of the Blitz, as they were responsible for shepherding people into the shelters.
It is fully London hallmarked for 1938 on the reverse, with the maker mark JC in an oblong punch.
The condition is excellent, showing little sign of wear. It has a brass pin on the reverse.
