Title Belt axe head
Nationality European
Period 15th century
Price £95.00

This ground find is a typical camp or belt axe of the type carried by archers in the fighting during the Hundred Years War. It would have been used for small jobs around the camp. In the Balkans, these axes have turned up as ground finds on the Kosovo battlefield, where they would probably have been used by both sides in a similar way.

In the Balkans, these might also have been used as light cavalry axes against the Turks, who, with only their turbans to protect them, were vulnerable to this sort of instrument.

It measures about 13cm from the back of the socket to the leading edge. Its condition, as you would expect of a ground find, is heavily corroded, but all the essential shape is still there.

The day the blunderbuss arrives I could not stop looking and feeling the gun for at least one hour. My wife told me that I was sick........ I am very happy, it is a piece of craftsmanship! Well made! I have 5 blunderbusses but all iron barrel, also from England but this one is gorgeous with the Brass Barrel.

Please keep me informed when you have any other type of blunderbuss. Thanks my friend!
