Title 79th (Cameron Highlanders) plaid brooch
Nationality Scottish
Period c 1855-81
Sold

This is a silver (not hallmarked) plaid brooch (2 7/8 inches diameter), which would have been worn by the officers of the 79th Highlanders throughout the last half of the 19th century. This was worn to secure the plaid worn over the shoulder in full dress and, in the early years at least, in fighting order. An evocative piece of Highland regalia.

The brooch itself shows remarkably little wear, evidence perhaps of being kept in its box (which is now sadly missing) for most of its life.

My order arrived this morning, thanks for the prompt delivery.

Two excellent original pieces, I must say.

Buckle is in minty condition retaining so much detail esp plummage on eagle's neck and chest, like to see those 'creases' on the legs also... a beautiful example of an early O&C buckle.

Belt is very interesting, rather thin, CROUPON stamped and also behind the tongue...maybe Allegmeine but no SS markings as you state. Beautiful piece none the less.

Thanks for a speedy transaction Chris, I am very happy with my purchase :)
