This unit was raised in 1917 for garrison duties along the lines of communications in Mesopotamia (Iraq). The regiment did not see combat, except in the post-war period where they took part in the hostilities in Kurdistan. The regiment was disbanded in 1920. It comprised mostly Bengalis Hindus with a lesser proportion of Bengali Muslims. This very scarce WW1 unit would have qualified for honours for Mesopotamia 1917-18 and possibly for Kurdistan had it survived. The badge itself is die-struck and stamped 'SILVER', while the shoulder title is die struck gilding metal. There is a little wear from cleaning, as you would expect, but their overall condition is good. |
